Eagles Baseball Team hopes to Soar to new heights in 2018

The 2018 Clark State Eagles baseball team looks to improve on the 2017 campaign.

The Eagles opened the 2018 season on Thursday, March 1 with two tough losses to UC Clermont. They will be back in action this weekend down at Wright State's Nischwitz Stadium against Wright State Club team.

This year's team will have a lot of new faces around the diamond. On the mound, the Eagles plan on using several different arms. Our starters look should be; Aaron Phillips (Northeastern HS), Riley Weston (Danville HS), Caden Binkley (Northeastern HS) and Thomas Henry (Stebbins HS).

Coming out of the bullpen on a regular basis you will see; Ethan Hardin (Springboro HS), Jack Miller (Stow HS), Steven Herndon (Doss HS, KY) and Sterling Richardson (Jonathan Alder).

"Last year was a learning year for us, and we had a busy offseason recruiting to build our program," said Clark State Head Coach Chase Brown. "This year we brought in a strong recruiting class that is game ready and should provide us a lot of innings." On the field, Clark State will have entire new starting infield and outfield. We look forward to seeing these names in the starting lineup to anchor our infield. At first base; Dustin Myer (Fairborn HS) and Dominic Kuzujankis (Greenon HS). At second base; Colin Minner (London HS) and Evan Maxwell (Tecumseh HS). At shortstop Christian Rivera (Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, PR). Rounding out the infield spots third base; Jacob O'Brien (Fairmont HS), Sy Zickler (Brownstown HS, IN), and Curtis Kimmerly (Stebbins HS). Behind the plate, we are looking at two individuals to split time. Jake Hyer (Alter HS) and Vicente Castro (International Baseball Academy HS, PR) are both game ready and have strong arms to keep the other teams from running. Our outfield has some balance of speed at the centerfield and leftfield positions and some power at the right field position. We look to see JJ Smith (Gahanna HS), Jevin Williams (Canal Winchester HS), Austin Goffe (Bethel HS) and Garrison Smith (Hamilton Township HS) will share time.

"We are excited about the 2018 campaign. We have a good group of guys here," added Coach Brown.

Conference play starts Friday, March 23 with the Eagles hosting Eastern Gateway beginning at 1 p.m. at Fairfield Park in Fairborn.
